Box Elder wins 9C title

The Box Elder Bears went into their Junior High District 9C Volleyball Tournament April 3-5 with a near-perfect record.

The Bears put their record on the line for the three-day tournament, facing 10 other area teams, including Blue Sky, Big Sandy, Havre Central No. 1, Havre Central No. 2, Hays-Lodge Pole, J-I, KG No. 1, KG No. 2, Rocky Boy No. 1 and Rocky Boy No. 2. The tournament was held at three different schools Havre Central, KG and Blue Sky.

After battling back from the loser's bracket, Blue Sky met up with Box Elder for the championship. The two teams played each other four times throughout the course of the season, with each team winning twice.

With the teams spliting during the regular season, the championship game promised to be filled with tough competition. But in the end it was the Bears who came away with the title.

Before advancing to the title game, the Eagles defeated Big Sandy in the consolation game. Led by strong play at the net from their four eighth-graders and tough play in the back row from the supporting seventh-graders, the Eagles knocked off Big Sandy.

Blue Sky took its short winning streak to the court for the championship game, where the consistent serving of the Bears and an all-out team carried Box Elder to victory.
