CHINOOK Golda Lillie Scherlie, 85, Chinook, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at a Chinook nursing home due to natural causes.

Cremation has taken place. At her request, no services have been planned.

Golda was born Feb. 28, 1917, in Lemmon, S.D., to Charles and Laura (Atagy) Smith. She moved to Shepard with her family in 1935 and lived in various places.

She married Adolph Scherlie in 1941.

Golda was a member of the Rebecca Lodge in Chinook.

She loved gardening and canning. She always entered her gardening and canning in the Blaine County Fair.

Golda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adolph in July 1984; son, Henry Kenneth Scheafer in June 1986; brothers, William and Everett Smith; and sister, Grace Reed.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Joseph Scheafer of Ridgeland, S.C., William Scheafer of Titesusville, Fla., and Susan Miller of Abilene, Texas; and five great-grandchildren.

Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is in charge of arrangements.
