Young Northstars finish season on road with win

MEDICINE HAT, Alberta Havre's 9- and 10-year-old Northstars traveled to Canada for the second straight weekend to face tough competition.

In their first game Saturday morning, the Northstars faced a strong opponent in the team from Swift Current, losing 12-1. In the afternoon session, the Northstars squared up against the Lethbridge Norcrest team, which the Northstars had beaten 15-1 a week earlier. On this day, a couple of errors by the Northstars down the stretch led to an 8-5 loss.

On Sunday, the young Northstars had a chance to end the season with a victory against Lethbridge Southwest. Behind a strong team batting effort and hard-nosed defense, the Northstars rallied to a 12-5 victory to end their post-season stint.

"They had a great time and a successful season," said coach Lunar Evans.

He and coaches Mark Majeres and Paul Dees saw the players bond both on and off the field.

"That's what it's all about, having fun and hopefully learning a few things along the way," Evans said.
