Great Falls High standout Gillespie signs with Lights

Montana State University-Northern men's basketball coach Shawn Huse has signed a familiar face to play basketball for the Lights next season.

Cody Gillespie of the Great Falls High Bison has signed an NAIA letter of intent to play for Northern.

Gillespie, a 6-5 forward, led the Bison in rebounding the past two years and was an integral part of this year's team that finished fourth at the State AA tournament.

He averaged 13.3 points, 9.7 rebounds (3rd in AA) and two assists a game this year while shooting 80 percent from the free-throw line.

Against Havre this season, Gillespie scored 30 points and grabbed 24 rebounds in the two games which the Bison split with the Ponies.

"Cody is a very good all-around basketball player," said Lights head coach Shawn Huse. "He works extremely hard at his game and is always looking for areas to improve upon so he can help his team. He excels at rebounding the basketball, but also possesses the ability to score, pass, handle the ball and make free throws when needed as well. Most importantly, Cody is another guy with the great type of character and personality that exemplifies the type of people we look for in our program,"

Cody carries a 3.1 cumulative GPA and plans to study business at MSU-Northern.
