Fort Peck, Blackfeet undefeated in girls tourney

The Blackfeet Nation and the Fort Peck squads finished pool play at the Montana All-Star Tribal Challenge undefeated on Thursday at the Havre Central gymnasium.

The Blackfeet rode the talents of Browning junior Tamara Guardipee to a pair of wins. Guardipee scored 35 points to lead the Blackfeet over the Chippewa Cree. Box Elder senior Tami Infante led the Chippewa Cree with 21 points in the loss.

The Blackfeet got 26 points from Guardipee in a 61-57 overtime win over the Northern Cheyenne. Danielle Shotgun led the Northern Cheyenne with 17 points.

Fort Peck also finished the day undefeated, picking up a 92-46 win over the Northern Cheyenne and a 88-49 win over Fort Belknap.

Ashley Moran scored a combined 48 points in the two wins while Tessa Beston scored 21 points against the Northern Cheyenne. Janielle Talycoma and Leah Huntsalong led the Northern Cheyenne with 11 points apiece. Fort Belknap got 21 points from Olivia Main in the loss to Fort Peck.

In other first round action, Fort Belknap picked up a 63-57 win over the Chippewa Cree to open the tournament. Olivia Main scored 17 points and Deserae KillEagle added 12 points in the win. Infante led the Chippewa Cree with 21 points.

The girls will compete in a single elimination tournament today at the Havre Central Gymnasium. The Northern Cheyenne were scheduled to face the Chippewa Cree at 11 a.m. with the winner meeting Fort Peck at 2 p.m. Fort Belknap and the Blackfeet will square off at 12:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to the 4 p.m. championship game.
