HAZEL GATZEMEIER obituary

Hazel D. Gatzemeier, 85, a resident of Havre, Mont., died on June 1, 2010, at a Havre care facility of natural causes.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m.. on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Havre, with Father Dale Yurkovik officiating.

Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery, A luncheon will follow the burial at St Jude Parish Center. Memorials in her memory may be made to Havre's North Central Senior Citizens Center or St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church.

Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.

Hazel was born on July 28, 1924, at South Rudyard, Mont., on the family homestead, the daughter of Edward C. and Anna May (Fort) Gatzemeier.

She attended a country grade school and high school in Great Falls and graduated from St. Thomas High School. Hazel graduated from the Sacred Heart Hospital Nurses School in Havre, and worked at the St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, Ill., for 49 years.

In 1990 she moved to Havre to be near family and lived with her sister at the Eagles Manor Retirement Apartments. In 2005 she moved to Northern Montana Care Center.

Hazel enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, bridge club, and playing word-find and crossword puzzles. Hazel also loved to travel, especially driving out to Montana to see her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Victor; and two sisters, Sister Clara Ann O.S.F. and Mary Rockwell.

Hazel is survived by her sisters, Helen (Alvin) Krejci of Chester, Mont., and Martha Haag of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two brothers, Joe (Martha) Gatzemeier of Havre, Mont., and Edward Gatzemeier of Helena, Mont.; and several nieces and nephews.
