Havre Daily News All Hi-Line Boys Team 2010

When it comes to high school boys basketball on the Hi-Line, success is a common word. But the 2009-10 season had as much success as any area at any time can garner. From Rocky Boy and Big Sandy winning state championships just minutes apart, to great stories like Chinook and Havre High, and beyond, this season was magical to say the last. And that's why the Havre Daily News 2010 All Hi-Line Boys Basketball team is full of great players and great success stories. This year's team is again top heavy with seniors — eight in all. It's also team heavy with four Rocky Boy, three Havre High, two Big Sandy and two Chinook players making the list of 12. However, this year's team features some new stars, with only four players returning to the list from last year.

Blake Brumwell, Big Sandy Brumwell has made the All Hi-Line Team every year of his high school career, and likewise, he's been a four-time Class C and Northern C performer. However, the 6-7 Big Sandy senior saved his best for last. With all he and his Pioneers have accomplished, a state title eluded them until earlier this month when they beat Power to capture the Class C state championship. Brumwell also helped Big Sandy to its first 9C tournament title in four years last month, and during a muchwelcomed injury-free senior campaign, he averaged 18 points and led the 9C in rebounding at just under 12 per game. Brumwell also posted an astonishing 61 percent field goal percentage from the field this season. Brumwell is a three-time unanimous selection to the Hi-Line team and is headed to Montana State University on a basketball scholarship.

C.J. Evans, Havre High Blue Pony senior C.J. Evans might be a newcomer to the Hi-Line team, but he's no stranger to filling up the stat sheet. Evans was among the top performers in the Central A in scoring this season, pouring in just under 20 points per game. He's also a standout 3-point shooter, excellent ball handler and his size made him a matchup problem for almost every team his Blue Ponies faced this year. As a result of his breakout senior season, Evans earned Central A First Team All-Conference honors, was selected to play in several prestigious postseason all-star games and he helped HHS to one of its best seasons in recent history. The Ponies came within one win of reaching the Class A state tournament, finishing third at the Central A tourney earlier this month in Great Falls. Despite his basketball prowess, Evans is headed to MSU-Northern to play football for the Lights.

Lyndsey Eagleman, Rocky Boy One of four Rocky Boy Stars to make the list this year, senior Lyndsey Eagleman has been a catalyst at the point guard position, and a big reason the Stars were able to cap off a perfect season by winning the Class B state title earlier this month. A three-year starter at Rocky Boy, Eagleman averaged 13 points and six assists for the high-octane Stars, but his veteran leadership and ball-handling abilities, as well as his tough-nosed defense, made him an integral part of not just this year's great Rocky Boy team, but part of the winningest boys basketball program in Montana over the last three-plus seasons.

Corbin Pearson, Big Sandy There isn't much Big Sandy senior Corbin Pearson hasn't done in his brilliant four-year Pioneer career. Included in that is not make the All Hi-Line Team. Pearson has been a member of the team all four years of his brilliant prep career, not to mention being a four-time Class C All State and all Northern C performer. The 6-5 swingman led the Pioneers in scoring this season at nearly 22 points per game, and his defense and rebounding was also key in Big Sandy not only making a fourth straight trip to the Class C state tournament, but also capturing the school's first boys basketball state title since 1963. Pearson is a three-time unanimous selection to the Hi-Line team, and among his many other individual accomplishments, he was also named MVP of the Class C state tournament earlier this month in Billings.

Jerod Parker, Rocky Boy Rocky Boy senior Jerod Parker has seen and done it all when it comes to basketball. A three-year starter for the Stars, and a four-year varsity player, Parker and his fellow Stars' seniors have been part of one of the most successful runs in boys basketball history in Montana. Racking up over 80 wins in four years, as well as numerous district and divisional titles, Parker has been a steady player for the Stars the whole way. And he finally got to call himself a state champion when he helped lead the Stars to the Class B state title earlier this month in Great Falls. Parker averaged 15 points and was one of Rocky Boy's top 3-point shooters this season, and at the state tournament, he pumped in over 17 points per game in three outings.

Thane Gray, Havre High Havre High senior Thane Gray had a season he'll never forget. The 6-5 Gray averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds per game for the Blue Ponies this season, earning Central A All-Conference honors in the process. But it was his play in the Central A Divisional tournament last month which helped the Ponies to a third-place finish. Gray averaged 18 points and 13 rebounds at the divisional tournament, and was a force on the defensive end of the floor as well. This is Gray's first time making the All Hi-Line Team, and he's also been selected to play in several postseason allstar games this spring.

Dylan MacLean, Chinook It was a year to remember for the Chinook Sugarbeeters, and one big reason why was the play of senior guard Dylan MacLean. A four-year starter at Chinook, MacLean poured in almost 21 points per game this season, and was as deadly a 3-point shooter as there was in Class C basketball. For his efforts, MacLean, helped lead the Beeters to second-place finishes at both the District 9C and Northern C divisional tournaments. He was also selected as an all Northern C and Class C All State player for the second time in his illustrious Chinook career.

Leisin Oats, Rocky Boy The third of four Rocky Boy Stars to make the list, 5-11 junior Leisin Oats shined on the biggest stage of Class B basketball this winter. Oats led the Stars in scoring in all three of their Class B state tournament games en route to the Class B state title. The move to Class B had little to no effect on the lightning fast Rocky Boy guard. An all District 1B selection this season, Oats was also a lockdown defender, leading the 1B in steals, as well as a standout 3-point shooter.

Jordy Donoven, North Star In what was billed as a successful season at North Star, 5-11 sophomore guard Jordy Donoven had plenty to do with that. In just his second season of basketball for the Knights, Donoven was a consistent double-digit scorer, as well as an excellent passer and defender. His size and quickness helped make him a tough matchup on offense, and an even tougher man-to-man defender. He also helped the Knights overcome plenty of injury problems en route to a winning season and a strong showing at the 9C tournament last month in Havre.

Anfernee Standing Rock, Havre High The third Havre High player to make the All Hi-Line Team this year, 6-3 junior Anfernee Standing Rock was as steady as any player on the list this season. Standing Rock transferred from Rocky Boy where he started for the Stars last season, and he had no trouble making the transition to Class A basketball. He averaged double figures in points this season while earning Central A All Conference honors. And he helped the Ponies to a third-place finish at the Central A tournament last month in Great Falls.

Taylor Erskine, Chinook One of the most successful season's in recent Chinook boys basketball history had a lot to do with 6-3 junior forward/ guard Taylor Erskine. Part of a deadly 3-point shooting trio at Chinook this season, Erskine averaged nearly 13 points per game, but he also played big inside, and finished the season as one of Chinook's top three rebounders. Also an excellent defender, Erskine was an all 9C selection in helping guide the Beeters to second-place finishes at both districts and divisionals. Eric Schildt, Rocky Boy Rocky Boy senior Eric Schildt rounds out the All H

i-Line Team. The 6-6 Schildt finished a brilliant prep career for the Stars with a Class B state championship and an MVP-like performance in the second half of the state title game against Shelby earlier this month in Great Falls. Schildt is a three-time selection to the Hi-Line team, a two-time Class C All State performer and a District 1B selection this season. He was also the Stars' leading shot blocker and rebounder in three of his four seasons as a starter, and is part of over 80 wins in four years at Rocky Boy. Schildt became a starter during his freshmen year at Rocky Boy and never looked back.
