Ponies sweep Cowgirls in Conrad

The Havre High volleyball team was hoping to turn their luck around this weekend, and Thursday night they got off to a good start.

The Central A Blue Ponies were in Conrad on Thursday, in a great match, the Ponies defeated the Cowgirls in three games. The Ponies won by scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-15, an outstanding turnaround as the Ponies barely escaped the Cowgirls in five close games last week.

"The focus we had during this match was the best that we have had all year," Havre High head coach Melanie Skoyen said. "And it really showed in our scores. I do feel like we played better because we are continuing to gain experience and I think things are beginning to turn around.

"This is the time any coach wants a team to peak," Skoyen added. "So hopefully it all unfolds the way we have planned."

Sadie Seidel helped lead the Ponies to a victory, and Skoyen knew she would have a good match because of her efforts in practice the last week. And Thursday night, Seidel finished with six kills and three aces.

"She has really been working on her approach because she was getting blocked more than she liked," Skoyen said. "She really worked on that in practice and it really showed tonight."

Peyton Filius also had a good match with 22 assists. Filius also had five digs, while Sarah Armstong led the way with 10 kills and two blocks. Juletta Don also had two blocks and Sammy Evans had six kills. Brandy Lamburne led the team with 11 digs and three aces, while Michaela Boles also had five digs.

HHS will continue on to Browning where the Ponies will face the Indians on Saturday in conference play.
