County superintendent chosen, not announced

Hill County commissioners have found someone to fill the vacant County Superintendent of Schools position.

The first order of business at Monday's 9 a. m. commissioners' meeting is the appointment of a new superintendent.

According to Commission Chair Mike Wendland, the candidate has requested not to have their name released until the Monday morning appointment, but the commission is satisfied with the choice.

"They have experience in education, " Wendland said. "So in visiting with them, we felt they had the qualifications necessary for the position. "

The post has been vacant since Gary Pfister turned down the position two weeks after being elected in November.

At the time, Pfister said he was concerned about the commissioners' cuts to the superintendent's position, saying "it is apparent that the goal of the commissioners is to consolidate the superintendent's office with another department as soon as possible."

Commisioners say they have been trying to find someone to fill the position since then.
