George Lewis Gerky

George Lewis Gerky, 86, of Havre, Mont., passed away at Northern Montana Hospital on Sept. 29. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. His memorial service will be 11 a. m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the First Lutheran Church, with Pastor Michael O'Hearn officiating.

George was born July 27, 1926, to William and Mary Ann Gerky of the Cottonwood area. He attended the Miller School and spent most of his young life working on their farm and helping on neighboring farms. He also worked on the Havre Radar Base and for Carter Oil Company and the Great Northern Railroad.

On Nov. 10, 1956, he married Edith Ulven of Havre, and they lived on their farm at Simpson until they moved to Havre in 2006. They had four children, Karia, Kory, Kay and Kurt. He was a great farmer. He also loved to hunt and fish, bowl and go to auction sales.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herb and Henry; sisters, Gertrude Brandon and Lucille Gerky; and infant grandson, Collan Gerky.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years; daughters, Karia in Havre and Kay (Merlin Johnson) in Chinook; sons, Kory (Wendy) and Kurt (Wendy) in Havre, as well as grandchildren, Jenny Follmer (Jonathan) in Scotland, Dustin Gerky in Equador, Shardae Hankinson (Rial) of Chinook, Adam Johnson (Kassie) of Havre, Abrianna Johnson of Bozeman, Katon Gerky of Missoula and Lindsay Gerky of Great Falls. He has one great-grandchild, Alanna Follmer in Scotland. He is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Stephens (Paul) of Everton Mo. ; and many nieces and nephews.
