Blue Ponies make up games in Lewistown

It's been a while since the Havre High softball team has been on the road. And the Blue Ponies weren't supposed to head out today either.

But when last Saturday's critical Central A Conference game at Lewistown was cancelled, today became a very important day for HHS and head coach Mike Thill.

The Ponies are in Lewistown this afternoon for a makeup game with the Golden Eagles, and plenty is at stake.

Havre sits at 3-3 in the Central A Conference and needs at least one win over the Eagles to keep its Class A state tournament hopes alive.

Havre helped itself two weeks ago with a win over Livingston in Havre, and the Ponies will get two chances against the Eagles in the next three days. Havre will also host Lewistown as part of the Havre Invitational this Saturday.

But a road win over the Eagles would certainly give the young Blue Ponies a leg up in the conference standings.

The Ponies bested Browning 21-0 on Tuesday at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field. That too was a makeup game, and in it, freshman Rachel Majers was near perfect in the pitcher's circle, throwing a no-hit shutout against the Indians.

Today, HHS will likely go with junior ace Davee McLeod against the hard-hitting and veteran Eagles. While HHS is a young team, Lewistown has several key seniors who return from last year's squad, and the Eagles have a solid batting order.

Meanwhile, the Ponies' bats exploded against browning, and proved they are certainly capable of doing so again today in Lewistown.

Today's varsity game in Lewistown will begin at 3 p.m. and the junior varsity game will start at 5 p.m.
