Fairview ends Beeters' season yet again

Sidney Herald

Chinook quarterback Scott Schmitt looks to pass during Saturday's Class C quarterfinal game in Fairview. The Warriors defeated the Sugarbeeters in the playoffs for the second straight season.

Over the last couple of years, the Fairview Warriors have been a roadblock for the Chinook Sugarbeeters football team. That was true again this season, as the Warriors once again, put a stop to the Beeters state title hopes.

Saturday the Class C 8-Man Beeters were in Fairview for a state quarterfinal matchup. But as the Warriors dominated the Beeters 64-24, the Warriors ended the Beeters' postseason run for the second straight season. Last year Fairview defeated Chinook in the semifinals.

This time around, the Beeters couldn't put a stop to one of the top prep running backs in the state, at any level.

Cody Vitt had another big weekend, and really hurt the Beeters. The Warriors jumped out to a 30-12 first quarter lead, a big reason due to the fact that Vitt was able to break off three consecutive scores. In the frame, Vitt scored on a four-yard carry, a 27-yard reception, and on a 19 yard rush.

Vitt finished the game with seven total touchdowns and 108 yards rushing on 12 carries. Vitt had 71 yards rushing in the first half, as he led the Warriors to a total of 267 yards on the ground. Quarterback Brock Schriver also did damage, as he finished with 171 passing yards and four passing touchdowns.

And after the crushing deficit to start the game, the Beeters just couldn't make up the ground.

The Beeters were outscored 20-0 in the second quarter and 14-0 in the third quarter. Tyler Molyneaux helped lead the Beeters to the end zone twice in the opening quarter, but couldn't get the offense rolling moving forward. Molyneaux scored on a 50-yard rush, as well as tossed a 12-yard TD pass to Scott Schmitt. The two other scores for Chinook came in the final quarter, as Derek Bell scored on a four-yard rush, and Kenneth Pruttis scored on a 35-yard pass from Ian McIntosh.

The Beeters finished the game with 127 total rushing yards, and a total of 95 passing yards, as they ended the season with a 9-2 record.
