Joann (Braaten) Overcast

Joann (Braaten) Overcast, 75, Conrad, Mont., born Aug. 12, 1936, in Williston, N.D., to Jens and Agnes (Olson) Braaten, died of natural causes Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Pondera Medical Center.

Memorial services were held April 5, 2012, in Conrad at Abundant Life Assembly of God Church.

Joann grew up and attended school in Williston, N.D. In 1956, Joann married Meryl Flatley at Round Prairie Church west of Williston. To this union, a son, Dennis Flatley, was born. Meryl passed in 1956, a few months after they were married. In 1960, Joann married Darrell Overcast in Havre, Mont., where they had three more children and resided for several years. They moved to Martin City, Mont., and raised their family there as well as taking in anyone else who needed a place to stay. Darrell passed away in 2005, while they were living in Conrad.

Joann loved going to the movies, dancing and playing cards. She enjoyed visiting with relatives and friends and especially watching her grandchildren grow up. She cared a lot for others and had many friends. Joann ("Jo") is survived by daughters, Cindy (Guy) Galliger of Fargo, N.D., Darla (Jon Glessner) Overcast of Marion, Mont., and Dana (Doug) Baldwin of Conrad, Mont. ; sons, Dennis Flatley Overcast of Martin City, Mont., and Darren Overcast of Columbia Falls, Mont. ; her sisters, Linda (Erik) Rognlien of Williston, N.D., and Renelle (Wayne Koepke) Braaten of Havre; and a brother, Steve Braaten of Havre. She was blessed with six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends who were all very dear to her.

Joann was preceded in death by her husbands, Meryl Flatley and Darrell Overcast, and her parents, Jens and Agnes Braaten.
