Local youths win on the track in Colstrip

The high school track and field season ended several weeks ago, but that doesn't mean local thinclads weren't still burning up the track this summer.

A large contigent of Havre and area kids made the trip and brought home plenty of ribbons from the annual event. The tracksters qualified for the meet through the Havre Hershey Track Meet earlier this month.

In the girls age 11-12 division, the local relay team of Kimberlee Irvin, Janae Boles, Taylor Marinkovich and Aislyn Baker won first place in the 400-meter relay. Boles also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash and Baker sixth. Boles also got a second in the 400 and Baker fourth, while Marinkovich got eighth in the 200. Irvin was seventh in the standing long jump and Melanie Jones placed eighth, while Marinkovich placed seventh and Boles eighth in the softball throw.

In the girls 9-10 division, Tamera O'Leary took fifth in both the 50-meter dash and the standing long jump, while Lanie Van Voast placed fourth in the 800-meter run of the girls 12-14 division.

On the boys side, in the 11-12 age group, the team of Ethan Roberts, Trajan Hannum, Jacob Irvin and Ivar Aageson placed first in the 400 relay. Aageson won the 100-meter dash, while Roberts was fifth, Hannum sixth and Irvin seventh. Roberts placed first in the 200 with Irvin third, while Aageson won the 400. Hannum finished second in the 800 meters. Irvin placed third, Hannum fourth and Roberts sixth in the standing long jump, while Aageson made it three first-place finishes by winning the softball throw.

In the 13-14 age group, Bobby O'Leary took first in the 80 meters and fourth in the 1,600. Austin Jones placed fifth three times, in the 100, 200 and standing long jump.
