Hi-Line Darts and Laurels

Laurel — Thurman Holdsclaw and Katie Christianson were named Homecoming King and Queen at Havre High School. May they have a good time this weekend as they represent the school at a host of homecoming activities.

Laurel — Festival Days 2012 was a success. It seems every year there are more and better activities. Thanks to everyone involved, from Havre Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Debbie Vandeberg to the volunteers to the softball players who played their hearts out around the clock.

Dart — A federal appeals court has struck down a Montana rule that barred political parties from making endorsements in Montana Supreme Court races. The decision was another blow to Montana's commendable reformist election rules. The Montana Supreme Court is respected nationwide for its approach to issues. That, in part, is because voters chose the judge based on qualifications, not political alliances.

Laurel — Fort Belknap firefighters did a great job last weekend of containing a massive fire that consumed a land area 15 times the size of Havre. But no one was injured and no homes or structures were lost because of the firefighters' work.

Laurel — Tom and Marilyn Jurenka were honored with the Ag Producers Leader Award, while former Extension Agent Joe Broesder was honored as this year's Ag Advocate, at the Ag Appreciation Dinner. They are the best in a great industry that fuels Hill County. Congrats.
