Thomas A. Hanning

Thomas A. Hanning, 76, passed away at Northern Montana Care Center on March 3, 2013 of natural causes.

His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at St. Jude Thaddeus Church with Father Daniel Wathen officiating. Memorials in Tom's name can be made to Havre Girls Fastpitch or to Beaver Creek Park for repairs and maintenance at 17863 Beaver Creek Road, Havre, MT 59501. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.

Tom was born March 9, 1937, to James and Helen (Hafdahl) Hanning in Havre, Mont. He graduated from Havre High School in 1955. Tom married the love of his life, Irene Bachini, on July 27, 1957. They had four daughters and shared 52 wonderful years together until Irene's passing in July 2009.

After graduation, Tom worked for Hafdahl Sheet Metal and then went to work for Great Northern Railroad in 1964. He retired as a conductor from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway after 35 years of service in May 1999, the same day Irene retired.

Tom enjoyed camping and fishing in the Bear Paws; hunting, especially geese in his younger days; and his claim to fame was being the "Boss" of Goofy Coulee in the Bear Paws. He was also a loyal fan of the New York Yankees.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife Irene, and his mother and father, James and Helen Hanning.

He is survived by his four girls, Cathie (Roger) Haas of Hingham, Mont., and Lori (Steve) Freier, Jean (Wes) Grandberg and Julie (David) Hassa, all of Havre, Mont .; five granddaughters, Heather (Josh) Glahn, Holly Haas, Devon Hassa, Kelsey Grandberg and Jaycelyn Hassa; two great-granddaughters, Hennesy and Hendrix Glahn; brother, Kenneth (Marlene) Hanning of California and Havre; sister-in-law, Joan Bachini of Havre; and several nephews and nieces.
