Another Saturday in the Bison Pool at the Swarthout Fieldhouse, another strong showing for the Havre High swim teams.
The Blue Ponies were part of the seven-team Great Falls Invitational on Saturday, and both the HHS boys and girls had strong moments. Helena High captured both the boys and girls meet's, but the Ponies were solid on both sides.
The HHS boys were very good in the relays. Amongst an all Class AA field, Havre finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.22, while the Ponies finished an outstanding fifth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:59.77.
Individually, Havre's top finish came from senior Nick Rhines, who turned in a blazing performance in the 100 free. Rhines finished fifth with a time of 56:04. Taylor Riphenburg finished 10th in the same race for the Ponies. Desmond Fialkosky also placed sixth for Havre in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.85, while Bryant O'leary placed 10th in the same race. Fialkosky added a ninth-place finish in the 200 free, while Riphenburg placed 10th in the 100 backstroke.
On the girls side, the Ponies got a stellar fifth-place finish in the 200 free relay with a time of 2:00.07. Individually, Hannah Pepprock led the way with a sixth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. Pepprock finished the race in 1:22.56. In the 50 free, Megan Smith finished ninth and Lieza Reighard 10th for the Ponies. Jackie Martin also placed 10th in the 100 free.
The Ponies will be back in the pool in Great Falls for a dual against GFH and CMR Friday. Havre will also attend the Missoula Invitational on Saturday.
