Pony girls dominate Central A honors

If a team does what they are supposed to do during the season, they are greatly rewarded in many ways. The Havre High girls basketball team had a very successful 2012-2013 season, and the rewards keep on coming.

Havre High junior Peyton Filius was named Class A All-State this past week after leading the Blue Ponies in scoring in 2012-13. Overall, the Ponies had five players tabbed as Central A All-Conference.

This season, the Central A Blue Ponies earned a regular season title, a divisional tournament title, as well as reached the state semifinals before their season came to an end. And with all of their efforts, the Ponies, as well as veteran head Coach Dustin Kraske garnered a lot of well deserved attention.

Lambourne

Kraske earned back-to-back regular season and conference titles with his talented girls squad this season. And after leading his team to a 14-9 record and to the state semifinals, he was named Central A Coach of the Year for his efforts.

Five of his players also earned postseason honors.

Peyton Filius really came on strong late in the season and led the Ponies with more than 12 points per game in her junior season. She also grabbed more than four rebounds per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range. She was also named Class A All-State and Central A First-Team All-Conference with her standout season.

Fellow junior Brandy Lambourne also earned First-Team honors as both she and Filius were repeat All-Conference performers. Lambourne scored nearly 10 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. And running the offense for the Ponies, Lambourne also led the Ponies with 46 assists this season.

Morgan Mazurkiewicz, a Blue Pony Sophomore, earned Second-Team honors. She also led the team with 46 assists, and pitched in seven points per game, while shooting 31 percent from 3-point range and 38 percent from the field.

Junior Lacey Waid and senior Neya Bischoff played key roles in the Ponies' success this season, and they too gained attention as they were named Honorable Mention for their contributions.

Waid was a defensive specialist and racked up 21 steals while also averaging more than five rebounds per game. Bischoff also scored more than six points per game and led the team with more than six rebounds per game as the Ponies' post player.Bischoff is the only senior that will exit the roster next season, meaning a lot of talent will return for HHS, including, Filius, Lambourne, Mazurkiewicz and Waid.
