Pearl Luella Powell Morgan

Pearl Luella Powell Morgan, longtime resident of the Bear Paw Mountains and Chinook, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, at a Great Falls hospital. Services will be held in Chinook at the American Lutheran Church at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Arrangements have been made with Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.

Pearl was born in a log cabin in the South Bear Paw foothills near the Bear Paw Springs, the oldest daughter of Milo and Mazo Powell. She graduated from Chinook High School in 1934 and married Lester Morgan later the same year.

Lester and Pearl honeymooned on their trap-line and later made their home on Lone Tree Bench. They had five children, Donna, Sharon, Bonnie, Helen and Lester (Mac).

Pearl was a true outdoors woman. She spent her life ranching, horseback riding, trapping, fishing, and raising magnificent vegetable and flower gardens. She was an amazing cook and was well- known for welcoming many to her table.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna Nemitz of Great Falls, Sharon (Orest) Palaniuk of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Bonnie (Gary) Reichelt, of Hayden, Idaho, and son, Lester (Mac) Morgan of Plains, Mont.; and sister, Eva Campbell of Chinook; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; daughter, Helen; brother Lawrence Powell; grandson, Robert Palanuik and two of her sons-in-law.

Memorials are suggested to the Blaine County Museum or the Chinook Senior Center.
