MSU-N women land Townsend star

With current high school seniors Brandy Lambourne of Havre and Makhayla Farmer of Chinook already signed to play for the Montana State University-Northern Skylights next fall, MSU-N head coach Chris Mouat is already putting together quite the 2014 recruiting class.

That class just got another Montana standout as Mouat announced the signing of Townsend’s Jacy Thompson earlier this week. Thompson, a 5-7 guard, is beginning her senior year at Broadwater County High School.

“The addition of Jacy to our 2014-2015 recruiting class is exciting,” Mouat said. “She is someone I’ve known for many years, and have always hoped she’d be here when it came time to make a college decision. Jacy is a very, very skilled player, outstanding athlete and top-notch student.”

Thompson is a two-time All-Conference selection and a 2013 Class B All-State pick. She was a member of the Great Falls Tribune Super State Team last year. She averaged 13 points, 7 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 3 steals per game during her junior year. Thompson helped lead BCHS to three consecutive district titles and back-to-back divisional titles, and third and second-place finishes at the State Class B Tournament, respectively the last two seasons.

“Jacy brings a great skill set to the court,” Mouat said. “She has outstanding vision and is very unselfish. She has the capability of playing up to three positions here. She has excellent range from the 3-point line. Beyond that, she brings some nice intangibles to the table. She’s aggressive and will take charges, dives on the floor for loose balls, and simply gets after it. She is very much a team-first player.

“Jacy is a tough kid, and she’s been through a lot physically to keep playing the game she loves,” he added. “I have no doubt that she’s set for a great senior season in Townsend, and look forward to having her here in a Skylight uniform next season. ”

Thompson’s sister, Jessica, is a MSU-Northern graduate and was a member of both the basketball and rodeo teams during her time in Havre. Thompson carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Aim Higher, Building Higher Standards, and Youth Council. She also served as her class Vice President for two years. She has been active in 4-H for 10 years, and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

She is the daughter of Vince and Denise Thompson. She plans on majoring in biology at MSU-Northern.
