Justine Roundstone-Manley

Justine (Mo’e’noh) Victoria Roundstone-Manley, began her journey back home to no’voose on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014. She was born on Sept. 10, 1957, to the late Martin Roundstone Jr. and Almeda Birdtail Bearchum. She was raised in the White River District, Busby, Mont., and spent summers with her grandparents at the Fort Belknap mountains of Lodge Pole, Mont. She attended Busby School and later obtained her GED. She also participated in the Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) placement program, sending off to school in Washington state.

She completed 1 ½ years of college working toward a medical records certification. For several years, she lived in Billings, Mont., working as a personal care assistant. She was our little big sister, taking care of her sisters and brothers. Her home was always open for them to come to. While in her care, as children, she would take them on many walking adventures around the Busby and Kirby areas. She also loved riding horseback and helping her siblings to ride, too, especially on her old White Mare and Four White Socks. She participated in the “Longest Walk” to Washington, D.C., in the early '70s.

Although she was a quiet, shy person, she had many friends and always supported them and her family in any way she possibly could. She was an amateur artist, especially drawing horses, beading and sewing, and other crafts. She loved to cook — feeding her family and friends. She was an avid baker — always making cookies and breads. She loved to read a good book. She was very proud of her grandson, Tristian, whom she raised as her own son, loving and caring for him was her pride and joy.

Her first relationship was with Edward Lewis, and from this relationship, her daughter, Eleven Rae Lewis, was born. She later lived with the late Lynross Bixby Sr., who helped her raise Eleven as his own daughter. She then married the love of her life, Garland (Gar) Manley, in 2001 at the Mormon Church in Lame Deer, Mont. They moved from Busby to Fort Belknap, living out in the Lodge Pole area, tending to the ranch, and also in town or at the Agency of Harlem, Mont. They lived near their mother, where she made many new friends and met her Gros Ventre/Assiniboine relations.

She is survived by her husband, Garland Manley, her son Tristian Chan Roundstone, and her daughter, Eleven (Donald C.) Lewis; her grandsons, Justus Washington, Diamond and Dre Marsh, and granddaughter, June Marie Cochran. She is also survived by her mother, Almeda (Ron C.) Birdtail-Bearchum; brothers, J. David (Minnette, Kathy), Mark (Tami) and Chance (Andrea) Roundstone; her sisters, Donna (John Y.) Roundstone-Spotted Eagle, Karen Stone and Evelyn (Shawn) Backbone. Other survivors include her aunties, Doreen Birdtail, Rachel (Leroy P.) Carroll, Effie Bearchum and Freda Smith; her special uncles, Clinton and Alvin Birdhat; her Roundstone and James nieces, nephews and grandchildren; her special niece, Chanda Spotted Elk; and grandson, Sky Jackson. Also surviving are special friends, Elaine Ereaux and Dora Morrison; her relatives, Truslers, Smalls, Small, Whitewolf, Snow, Bear Rope, Wooden Legs, Moores, Birdtails, Gones, Waltons, Walls-Earthboys, Brockies and Hanaways; and her many Northern Cheyenne, Gros-Ventre and Assiniboine relatives.

Justine is preceded in death by her dad, Martin Roundstone Jr.; sister, Julia Anna Roundstone; granddaughter, Mary Olene Chochran; and grandparents, Martin Roundstone Sr., Mary Grasshopper Martinez and George and Jenny Cliff Birdtail; her aunt’s namesake Victoria Roundstone-Jones; and Beverly Roundstone-Tall Bull; her brothers; Colemen and John Tall Bull; her uncles, George Jr., Wayne, Homer, Henry and Rueben Birdtail; her cousin sister, Shirley Birdtail; and her aunts, Shirley Hanaway, Edith Walls Earthboy, Joyce Gone, Ophelia Gives, Delores and Vivian Birdtail.

We love you, wife, mom, sister, daughter, auntie and grandma. Until we meet again.
