Havre woman stars in Fort Peck production

Pam Veis to star in ‘Driving Miss Daisy’

Havre’s Pam Veis will be playing the title role in Fort Peck Theatre’s production of “Driving Miss Daisy” tonight at the opening showing of the play.

“Driving Miss Daisy” is a popular play about an older Southern woman who hires an African-American man to chauffeur her and how she gets past her prejudice to forge a friendship with the man.

“It’s been a really great experience,” Veis said. “She’s a very complex character.”

Veis said this is her seventh year with the theater and she is excited to perform as Miss Daisy.

“I think even though it’s a show that’s been around for a long time, it’s amazing how relevant it is,” Veis said.

A Denver thespian by the name of Cris Davenport will be playing the role of Hoke, the chauffeur and Andy Myers, the Fort Peck artistic director, will be playing the role of Miss Daisy’s son, Boolie.

This is the first production of Fort Peck Theatre’s 45th season. The theatre hosts five shows a summer. After “Driving Miss Daisy,” the season continues with “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story,” “Cheaper by the Dozen,” “Shrek” and “Rodger and Hammerstein’s A Grand Night for Singing.”

In a press release, Meyers said “Daisy has been requested by audience members for quite a few seasons, and it is a show that’s a bit of a departure from our normal roster. We would not have included it as part of our season without securing Pam to return to play the title role. She is a perfect fit because she brings so much humor and charm to this iconic character.”

Stephen Brunson is the director of the production.

“It is a touching, colorful story told by three brilliant actors,” Brunson said in the press release.
