Hi-Line Athletes of the Week

Rainey Stoner, Havre X-Country

Havre High junior Rainey Stoner has only ran cross country for a couple of months. But she sure is making strides. Stoner, who ran a personal best time at the Havre Invitational two weeks ago, eclipsed that mark Saturday when she placed 16th at the Central A Divisional meet in Lewistown on Saturday. Stoner finished fourth for Havre High with a time of 24:27, but her finish helped HHS’s pack time and helped push the Ponies to a solid third-place finish overall. Stoner is also a tennis standout for the Blue Ponies in the spring.

Gavin Gunderson, Chinook Football

The Chinook Sugarbeeters didn’t panic when they fell behind P-D-B 21-0 last Wednesday night in Chinook. And that’s because they had running back Gavin Gunderson. On senior night, on a rain-soaked Hoon field, Gunderson led the Beeters to a 38-21 comeback win by scoring four straight touchdowns and rushing for over 150 yards. Gunderson scored on runs of 25, 15, 3 and 5 years, the last of which was the go-ahead TD in the comeback. Gunderson is also a hockey and baseball standout in Havre, and he runs track and field for the Beeters.
