ASMSUN Program Council presents Comedian Alysia Wood

Special to the Daily News

Alysia Wood is one of the bright new faces to come out of the strong Seattle comedy scene. She will be performing at the MSU-Northern campus in the Student Union Ballroom Nov. 20 at 8 p.m.

Wood jokes about so many “issues” that a therapist once handed her a business card during one of her shows. The Bob and Tom show called her material, “well-written … well-structured.” National Lampoon Comedy Radio called her, “Hysterical!”

Budd Friedman, legendary founder of the Improv chain, hosted a comedy competition at The Improv at Harrah’s in Las Vegas. Wood won the competition which caught the attention of Grammy award-winning producer, Dan Schlissel of Stand Up! Records, who then offered her a recording contract.

Her debut CD, “Princess,” was well received. Virgin Airlines selected it for in-flight entertainment and the Serious Comedy Site named it one of 2012’s “Top 10 Stand-up Comedy MP3 albums and CDs.”

Wood is also a contributing writer for Internet columns and frequent guest on many podcasts.  She was a panelist on Niecy Nash’s Yahoo series, “Let’s Talk About Love.”  Keep an eye out for her in the upcoming documentary, “I Am Road Comic” and Hulu’s West Coast Comedy series.

Admission is free for MSU-Northern students, faculty and staff. Community members are welcome to attend for $5/adults and $3/students.
