History foundation offers Preserve Montana grants

From Montana History Foundation

The Montana History Foundation, a statewide nonprofit committed to the preservation of Montana’s past, has announced that its Preserve Montana Fund grants are available to protect the historic legacy of communities across the state. Montana communities are invited to apply for grant funds for projects that restore historical buildings, preserve collections, and collect oral histories that shape their local character.

“The Montana History Foundation is committed to preserving our Montana heritage,” said Chris Warden, MHF board chair. “These grants enable the Foundation to partner with local communities to save those things that are the most meaningful to their local history.”

The grants are available to organizations and individuals who want to preserve historical assets of importance to Montana’s history. These projects include buildings and one-room school houses, oral histories, and collection/archival preservation. Individuals who are passionate about preserving local history may donate to the grant program to ensure continued success by reaching out to MHF at http://www.mthistory.org.

Grant criteria and guidelines are available from MHF online at http://www.mthistory.org or by contacting MHF at 406-449-3770 or [email protected]. Grants will be awarded for projects ranging in scale from $500 to $5,000. Applications will be accepted until Feb. 6.

Since the program’s inception three years ago, MHF has granted $233,305 to 39 communities across Montana.

MHF is able to offer this funding thanks to the support of numerous donors including the MHF Board of Directors, The Mary Alice Fortin Foundation Inc., and Charlotte Caldwell through her book: “Visions and Voices: Montana’s One Room Schoolhouses.”
