Henrys face tax charges

Former Stone Child College president Melody Henry and her husband Frank Henry pleaded not guilty Monday to two counts of tax evasion.

The Henrys each pleaded not guilty to:

• A count of willful failure to file a federal income tax return, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a $25,000 fine, one year of supervised release and the costs of prosecution

• Federal income tax fraud/filing a false return, which carries a maximum penalty of three years imprisonment, a $100,000 fine, one year of supervised release and costs of prosecution.

The indictments maintain that the Henrys altered their tax returns in 2010 and 2012.

The Henrys were recently found not guilty of charges that alleged they embezzled from the Chippewa Cree tribe and United States government.

The Henrys have until April 13 to work out a plea agreement with federal prosecutors. Otherwise the jury trial is set for April 27 at 9 a.m.

The investigation into Stone Child College operations is part of a federal probe into several agencies at Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation. Several Rocky Boy residents and several off-reservation alleged accomplices have been indicted. Some have pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing, while other are serving or have served prison sentences.

I wonder if Rostald and Waller will have to take down yet another plaque off their office walls. March has a number of sentencings to come, one wonders what will become of all the embezzlers waiting to be sentenced. Good luck Guardians.
