Our View: Hi-Line darts and laurels

Laurel — Helena lawmakers have it right on this one. There is a movement afoot to allocate $15 million to a fund that will be used to expand broadband service to rural Montana areas. Anyone who has tried to use a cellphone to communicate with others in parts of the Hi-Line would be supportive of that. The expansion of broadband is vital to attracting the kinds of jobs rural Montana needs. It also makes things better for all of us in the digital age.

Dart — We wish Rep. Ryan Zinke were a little bit more supportive of Amtrak. The Empire Builder is a tremendous advantage to the Hi-Line. It brings people to the area and it provides a way for people to travel to various parts of the United States with ease. It’s been a tremendous advantage to the area and we hope Congress continues to fund it.

Laurel — The Montana Seed Show finished its 66th successful year Saturday. It is Americana at its best. Harlem shows off its small-town nature during the Seed Show. The community spirit and old-fashioned small-town friendliness is shown to the world. The Hi-Line salutes the community of Harlem for its successful endeavors.

Laurel — Looking for some fun Saturday night? HRDC will hold a sloppy Joe benefit to raise money for school supplies at early education programs and for the Havre Food Bank. Lots of things to bid on at the silent and live auctions. There will be good food, and it will raise money for two great causes. Stop by at 6 p.m. at the Havre Eagles Club.
