Obituary - William D. Loranger

William D. Loranger, 87, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, at Sweet Memorial Nursing Home in Chinook of natural causes.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at Highland Cemetery. Bill's family has requested that memorial donations be made in his name to Kitty Keepers to help sustain the older cats, RezQ Dogs, or to the Montana State University-Northern Foundation to be used for Sky Lights basketball scholarships.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with services and arrangements.

Bill was born on Nov. 26, 1927, in Havre to Hazel (McKinnon) Loranger. He was raised in Havre, graduating from Havre High School in 1945.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945, and served for a year, receiving his honorable discharge in 1946.

Bill returned to Havre and attended Northern Montana College, graduating in 1948. He began working on the Great Northern Railroad, but when the conflict in Korea broke out, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served in Korea, receiving his honorable discharge in 1952. He returned to Havre and continued his career with the railroad, retiring in 1990 as an engineer, after 41 years of service.

Bill loved watching Chicago Cubs games, the Havre Blue Ponies, and his college teams, his beloved Skylights, the Northern Lights, the Montana Griz, and the Montana State University Bobcats. He also enjoyed reading, and golfing was a favorite pastime of his in earlier years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #55.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Loretta Loranger of Havre; his stepdaughter, Kim (Kevin) Powell of Nine Mile Falls, Washington; his grandsons, Kyle Powell of Washington and Chris Powell of Oregon; and his nephew, Duane Loranger of Arizona.
