Local Golf Report: See you all again in the spring

From Tee to Green...

And just like that, it was over. No, for many, playing golf is far from over. The promise of a strong El Nino pattern through the fall will have golfers on the links for several months still.

But, when the final putt dropped during last week's men's league championship match at Prairie Farms Golf Course, the competitive golf season in Havre, at least for the adults, did come to an end.

And, so too must this column come to an end, until next spring anyway.

So in my final From Tee to Green of the season, I'd like to congratulate Master Sports for their 2015 men's league championship, which they claimed last Tuesday night. The team, composed of Kyle Sheppard, Doug Sheppard, Dave Sheppard, Terry Sheppard, Barry Kato and Wayne Bolken, beat Korb Construction in an 18-hole match, 39-33. Over the two-night, 18-hole match, Kyle Sheppard was outstanding, shooting a 3-under par round of 69. Master Sports donated all their winnings from the championship to the AlS Foundation.

Awesome job guys.

Meanwhile, Korb Construction, the runner-up, was made up this season by Matt Hedstrom, Scott Miller, Pat Foster, Jim Kirkpatrick and Patch Wirtzberger. Congrats to them on a strong run in the playoffs as well.

And with that, it's time for me to say goodbye. As I mentioned earlier, there's still plenty of golf to be played, and I would like to especially wish Brett Gilman, Jeremy Jensen, Dave Boles, and all the Havre High and MSU-Northern golfers good luck the rest of the fall.

I'd also like to thank Matt Hedstrom, Ali Ward and Mike Seymour for all they did in sending results in from their respective leagues this season. Thanks to all three of you.

But for me, at least in writing, the golf season is now in my rearview mirror. But what a season it was.

I'm a late bloomer when it comes to golf season. I won't pick up a club until after our tennis season is in the books, and with such a great spring weather-wise, I missed a lot of golf early on. But I made up for it quickly. From having a blast playing with my Havre Ford league team, which has now been going strong for over 15 years, to attending the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay, to a beautiful evening playing at Fort Benton with my wife last month, to recently getting the opportunity to play Stockfarm in Hamilton, it was a short, but sweet ride on the links this year.

And, of course, the best part of playing golf locally is all the friendships. I play a lot of golf with people I hardly get a chance to see otherwise, and that's why I cherish my short, but fun, golf season so much. And that's the biggest reason why I can't wait for next summer, so I can get back on the course and do it all over again.

So, here's to yet another summer of fun on the golf course. It's been a blast, and I'll see all of you next spring.
