The Havre High School speech and debate team again saw success over the weekend with all of its competitors scoring points in a first-place finish at the Chester/Joplin-Inverness and North Star tournament held Saturday in Chester.

Havre won the Class A competition with 59 points. Central Division rivals Fergus County High School from Lewistown took second with 28 points and Browning High School took third with 12 points.

Leading the charge for the Blue Ponies were Emily Simonson, a senior, and junior Randi Ruhkamp.

Simonson took first place in dramatic oral interpretation, while Ruhkamp won the competition in original oratory.

Team policy debaters Trenton Parrotte, a senior, and Trenton Smith, a junior, were unopposed at the meet and brought home first-place medals in their event.

Senior Chris Steinmetz took third in memorized public address, followed by junior Jesse Riska, who took fourth in the event.

Seniors Patrick Leeds and Brandon Bergren took fourth and fifth, respectively, in impromptu speaking.

The Havre team next heads to Great Falls Friday for a two-day tournament, then competes at Choteau Dec. 19 before heading into the Christmas break.
