Hi-Line Athletes of the Week

Chinook Wrestling Team

Five wrestlers, with broken hearts, dealing with pain, sorrow and loss, came together to win a state championship. On the toughest stage in high school wrestling, Tate Niederegger, Kenny Pruttis, Jake Norby, Kevin Young and Derek Bell all placed and scored a remarkable 100 points at this weekend's Class B-C state tournament in Billings, winning a second straight team title, and honoring fallen teammate Jesse Dannels in the best way possible. Niederegger and Pruttis won individual titles, while Norby finished third, Young fourth and Bell fifth.

Aubri McCann, Havre Swimming

Chinook senior Aubri McCann swims for the Havre Blue Ponies. And she's proud of it. But this weekend at the state meet in Great Falls, she was also swimming for her community, her school and her friend, Jesse Dannels. And she swam the best race of her life on her way to an outstanding fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke Saturday. McCann finished with a time of 1:11.24, a personal best, and that put her on the podium for the second straight year. She also joined her teammates on the podium as the Blue Ponies won the 2016 Class A state championship.
