Discover Downtown set for Saturday in Havre

Saturday’s Discover Downtown event will kick off at 9 a.m. with a 5K run and a one-mile fun run and walk.

The event will include tours of Havre Historic Post Office and The 305 Building, a hand-painted mailbox auction and an ice cream-eating contest. The day will end with live music by Sax Cadillac.

The run and walk will start at 3rd Avenue and 3rd Street. The street between the two buildings will be blocked off and vendors will line the sidewalks. Vendors will be selling items on the Atrium Mall parking lot.

Organizer Dr. Erica Farmer said she and husband Dr. Marc Whitacre will be serving coffee and refreshments in the dance studio of The 305 Building before 9 a.m., as people will be getting ready for the run or walk.

“We’ll have the doors propped open, welcoming everyone,” Farmer said.

Aside from vendors, there will be licensed food truck caterers.

Event coordinator Tera Verploegen of Montana Country Boutique said the money from the mailbox auction, which is scheduled to start at 11 a.m., will go to Havre High School students who raising money to go to Washington, D.C., for the 2017 presidential inauguration.

Farmer said designated times for tours of the two buildings will be at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. She said there will probably be tours in between as well.

People who want to participate in the ice cream-eating contest need to register at Gram’s Ice Cream, where they will pay and pick flavors. The cost is $10.

Kids under 15 will be able to chalk the sidewalk beside the courthouse starting at 1 p.m.

The band will play from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
