Knights win twice; Beeters keep rolling

Conference matches were again the theme of the week in local high school volleyball.

The action started Thursday when Chinook stayed perfect in the District 6C East with a quick sweep of the Big Sandy Pioneers in Big Sandy. The Sugarbeeters bested the Pioneers by scores of 25-17, 25-12 and 25-23.

Leading the way for the Beeters was Kelsey Mathon with six kills and five aces. Kourtney Hanson added six kills and Sierra Swank had nine assists. Jasmine Genereux had a well-rounded match for the Pioneers with four assists, two aces and a kill.

In another big 6C East matchup Thursday night, the North Stars Knights swept their arch rivals from Chester-Joplin-Inverness. The Knights beat the Hawks by scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-20.

Meanwhile, Rocky Boy started the weekend off with a District 1B loss to the Cut Bank Wolves Thursday night. The Wolves won by scores of 25-8, 25-16 and 25-19.

The Morning Stars were also in action Saturday night, against playing a 1B match. This time, Rocky Boy was dropped by the Fairfield Eagles, by scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-7. Jaynah Gopher had two kills, two assists, four aces and four digs for the Morning Stars.

Back in the 6C East Friday night, the Big Sandy Pioneers rebounded from their loss to Chinook with a thrilling win over the Box Elder Bears. CJI won by scores of 17-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-27 and 15-9, in a match where both teams played extremely well.

Box Elder also lost a tough match Saturday. In a three-set sweep at the hands of North Star, the Bears hung tough. But the Knights were too much, as they won by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-21.

Sheridan Spicher had six kills, while Paij Peterson had five aces for the Knights. Lilly Gopher led the way in both kills and assists for the Bears.

Things were tough for the Pioneers Saturday as well. Playing their third match of the week, Big Sandy was pummeled by Northern C favorite Belt. The Huskies beat the Pioneers by scores of 25-10, 25-8 and 25-12. Andrea Rutledge performed well for the Pioneers, with a kill and two aces.

Another Northern C heavyweight, Chinook had little trouble Saturday night. The Beeters trounced Hays-Lodge Pole by scores of 25-10, 25-10 and 25-16 to remain unbeaten in the 6C East. Kelsey Mathon had another big match, with four kills and three blocks, while Sierra Swank had four assists and five digs. Nicole McCracken also served a whopping 11 aces in the win.
