City approves applying for $1.3M grant for airport

The Havre City Council voted 5-0 at their meeting Monday night to allow the Havre City-County Airport Board to submit a federal assistance grant application to the Federal Aviation Administration for a project to rehabilitate the airport’s taxiway and runway.

Council members Andrew Brekke, Matthew Boucher and Brian Barrows were absent.

Havre City Clerk/Finance Director Doug Kaercher said Tuesday that $1,341,000 for the project will come from the FAA.

Construction on the project could begin as early as July and bidding will begin the third Thursday of April, Kaercher said.

In other business

The Council voted unanimously to pass on second reading a bill that would do away with a section of city code that prohibits people from living in trailers.

The Council voted unanimously to renew a Montana State Historic Preservation Office Montana Historical Society Grant of $5,500 for the Havre/Hill County Preservation District.
