Four Skylights tabbed Frontier All-Conference

It has been a great season for the Montana State University-Northern women’s basketball team. And while it’s far from over, four Skylights have already been honored.

The Frontier Conference released its All-Conference Awards Tuesday morning, and Northern seniors Natalee Faupel, Sierra Richards and Molly Kreycik and junior Jacy Thompson were all named All-Conference for 2016-17.

Faupel, the 2016 Frontier Player of the Year, was First-Team All-Conference for the third straight season. She led the league in scoring at 18 points per game, while averaging eight rebounds and shooting 51 percent from the field.

Richards had a breakout season in the paint, averaging 11 points and eight rebounds per night. She also recorded six double-doubles, which was third best in the league, on her way to Second-Team All-Conference honors.

Both Thompson and Kreycik were named Honorable Mention. Kreycik averaged eight points per game this season, to go with 109 assists, but she averaged 11 ppg down the stretch of the season for Northern, and, she canned 42 3-pointers, which was the most on the Northern squad this season. Thompson, the 2016 Frontier Defensive Player of the Year, was named All-Conference for a second straight time, as she averaged 10 ppg and made 28 3-pointers, while still being one of the top defenders in the conference.

The Frontier Player of the Year this season went to Lewis-Clark State point guard Caelyn Orlandi. The senior led the 31-1 Warriors with 14 ppg, but she also led the NAIA in assists per game, dishing out seven per outing. Orlandi was also First-Team All-Conference for the third year in a row.

University of Great Falls junior guard Stephanie McDonagh was selected Defensive Player of the Year. Rocky Mountain College junior guard Keisha Engelhardt was selected Newcomer of the Year. Markaela Francis of Rocky Mountain and Jenna Randich of the University of Great Falls share Freshman of the Year honors. Lewis-Clark State sophomore forward/post Hailey Turner was selected the league's 6th Player of the Year.

UM-Western’s Lindsay Wooley and LCSC’s Brian Orr shared Frontier Coach of the Year.
