Northern head volleyball coach Bill Huebsch resigns

Montana State University-Northern announced Friday that head coach Bill Huesch had officially resigned his position.

The University put out a press release Friday, announcing the move. Huebsch spent nine seasons coaching the Skylights and compiled a record of 109-113. Northern was 6-16 overall last season, as well as 5-7 in the Frontier Conference.

The former Havre High head coach, who led the Blue Ponies to multiple state championships at the Class A level, was hired as Northern's head coach in 2009.

"I am thankful for the opportunity I got to coach at Northern," Huebsch said. "I am also thankful for all the great relationships I was able to build over the years with my players and fellow coaches."

The highlight of Huebsch's career at Northern came in 2013, when he led the Skylights to their first Frontier Conference regular season championship in 22 years. Huebsch was also named Frontier Conference Coach of the Year that season. The Skylights were also the runner up in the Frontier tournament that season and in 2012.

Other notable accomplishments during Huebsch's nine-year tenure at MSU-N, include three NAIA All-Americans, five All-Region players, 12 All-Conference players in the Frontier, three All-Freshman players in the Frontier, one Frontier Conference Freshman of the Year, a Frontier Conference Player of the Year, a Northwest Region Player of the Year, as well as 45 academic All-Conference athletes, 13 Academic All-Americans and three consecutive AVCA academic team awards.

The press release also said that the search for a new head volleyball coach will begin immediately.
