Crash kills 1 in Chouteau County

Name not released pending notifying relatives

One person was killed in a car crash Thursday afternoon after the vehicle drove off a Chouteau County road, rolled and threw out the driver.

“The driver was pronounced dead on the scene,” a Montana Highway Patrol press release says.

The Chouteau County coroner had not released the name of the deceased, pending notification of the victim’s relatives, by print deadline this morning.

A dispatcher with MHP said this morning that drugs or alcohol are not considered to have played a role in the fatal crash.

“The only thing suspected is speed,” the dispatcher said.

A Montana Highway Patrol news release said the vehicle was traveling westbound on Duck Creek Road around 2:44 p.m. when it ran off the right side of the road.

The vehicle re-entered the road and crossed the centerline, after which it drove off the right side of the road again.

The vehicle began to roll and the driver was ejected, the release said.
