Woman accused of exposing children to meth

A woman accused of using methamphetamine around her children and causing them to test positive for the drug is scheduled for an arraignment in state District Court in Havre at the end of the month.

Tracy Eagleman is charged with two felony counts of endangering the welfare of children and two misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass to vehicles. She is scheduled to appear for her arraignment, where she will plead guilty or not guilty, May 30 at 2 p.m. in District Court in Havre.

Charging documents say Havre City dispatch received a call March 22 about a woman who was walking around an RV park with two small children. The woman was checking car doors and got into the cars, police were told.

Officers responded and found Tracy Eagleman and the children in the driver’s seat of the caller’s car, documents say.

Eagleman told officers she had come from her home and was waiting to meet a friend who would give her a ride home. Eagleman said she thought the car she was in belonged to the friend she was waiting for.

When asked why she left her house with her children just so the friend could give her a ride back home, Eagleman did not have an answer, documents say.

Eagleman said the young girls, 1 and 2 years old, were her daughters. She said she did not remember their birth dates. Documents say the children were wearing winter coats “but appeared to be very cold” in the 22-degree weather.

Eagleman told an officer she had been using methamphetamine and last used “a little bit ago,” documents say. When asked if the children were around when she used, she said yes, documents say.

She later said she used meth frequently, that she did so a couple days earlier and that her children were around when she used it.

Child Protective Services picked up the children that day.

Eagleman was initially arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, but the charge was rescinded because she did not have keys to the car.

Officers had blood drawn from Eagleman at Bullhook Community Health Center, where the officer noticed marks on her that were consistent with methamphetamine use by injection, documents say.

The investigating officer recieved test results three days later from Child and Protective Services on the children which found that both children’s hair tested positive for meth exposure.
