Ophus residence named Yard of the Week

From Bullhook Blossoms Garden Club

Bullhook Blossoms Garden Club is featuring the yard of Arlene and Lester Ophus at 914 Sixth St. N.

Originally, Arlene grew all her plants from seed, but now she gets them from a local greenhouse. Her yard has many established perennials. Arlene has help with her yard from her daughter and the neighbors due to health problems but is still able to groom and water her plants and her "green thumb" is very apparent.

A large pot of red geraniums and pink gerbera daisies greet visitors at the door. The front yard features a wishing well adorned with petunias and grasses and a wooden wagon that is home to an array of petunias, geraniums, cannas, and mandevillas. Along the front of the house are several pots that belonged to to Arlene's mother filled with begonias, coleus and petunias. Rocks of all shapes and sizes are strategically placed around the pots and planters. Arlene has collected these rocks over the years from places she has travelled.

On the east side of the house is a very special perennial bed made for her by her grandson Jordan. Many memories are in that garden. Jordan was killed in a car accident in 1996. Alongside the perennial garden sits a waterwheel planter filled with begonias and geraniums, This was a gift from her brother.

This very colorful and cozy yard is tucked in on the north side of Havre and is worthy of a drive by to see the splendor of the flowers and the special care given by its owners.
