In 1929, Eleanor graduated from eight grade in Norma and the family moved to Hogeland and later to Turner. She was in the first graduating class at Hogeland High School in 1933. She then attended college in Havre, where she got a teaching degree and taught in Hogeland and Turner rural schools.

In 1940, she married Eddie Harmon in Turner. To this union two children were born, Linda (Bob) Brandon of Havre and Don Eddie (Bonnie) of Turner.

Eleanor and Eddie made their home on Eddie's father's homestead and farmed until Eddie's death in 1968.

In 1971, she married Bill Bickel and moved to Hamilton, Montana. Bill and Eleanor were active in the Lutheran Church and in 1980, became members of the Friendship Force which allowed them to travel to Japan and Germany.

In 1989, Bill retired from the Rocky Mountain Testing Lab in Hamilton, which afforded them to spend part of the year in Mesa, Arizona.

In 2010, Bill passed away and Eleanor moved to the Eagle's Manor in Havre to be closer to her family. In 2013, she was moved to the Care & Comfort Home where she continued to live out her life comfortably.
