Bev was born Oct. 14, 1929, in Havre, Montana, to John and Lillian (Norberg) Michalson. She was raised in Chinook, and graduated from Chinook High School in 1948. In 1949, Bev began working at Ben Franklin, and worked there until 1951.

She moved to Helena for a short time to work as a typist, and then returned to Havre, where she married Ralph H. Friede. The couple moved to Oceanside, California, where Ralph was stationed. Upon his discharge, they returned with their children to Havre, where Bev cared for their home and growing family until their youngest was in school.

At that time, Bev began working for Buttreys, where she worked for over 15 years until the store closed, and then worked for Woolworths for about 15 years, retiring when the store closed in the late 1980s.

Bev enjoyed painting, knitting, crocheting, quilting, dancing and watching Lawrence Welk. She loved flower gardening until just this past year when her health began to fail. In 2011, Bev fulfilled her dream of traveling to Norway. She also enjoyed traveling other places, including her trip to Washington, D.C., to see the war monuments and to Seattle to visit family.

She attributed her love of ice cream to her dad, who used to bring the kids ice cream once a week as a treat after cards. Bev spent time with her Taco John's Coffee Club, her VFW Ladies Auxiliary friends, and her Messiah Lutheran Church family, as well as her dear children and grandchildren, whom she always put first.

She was preceded in death by Ralph H. Friede, her husband of 52 years; her grandson Derek Peterson; her brothers, Marvin, Leroy, Vernon and Gordon; and her sister, Donna Rae.

Bev is survived by her six children, Virginia (John) Zumbrun, Michael (Sandra) Friede, Thomas (Debi) Friede, and Patrick Friede, all of Havre, and Marcia (Les Clark) Armstrong and Carol (Bill) Loomis, all of Helena; her 14 grandchildren; her 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
