News you can use

Hello, God, It's me, Mara - Heaven scent

You know, Lord, autumn is a season of comforting scents. Can’t we just remember back when we were kids at home and got to go to Margie’s house? Sometimes she would serve hot apple cider to us girls, especially if we had helped fold the laundry, wash dishes or even mopped the kitchen floor. How about our Mom’s fresh-baked apple pie laced with cinnamon? Now that was yum! Or when we’d go to town and Auntie had a day off from working? She did make cinnamon rolls that we could smell before we even opened her front door.

We were farm kids and we smelled fresh cut hay. Some of us helped Daddy with the mowing, bailing and the stacking. Do we remember the smell of dirt as we helped Mom or Dad dig potatoes? Which one of us may not have brushed the dirt off of a small potato just to sample a new little one?

How about the autumn rain? That is a refreshing smell. This week gentle rain fell on fires throughout a few states beside our state. After days of smoky smells, we now become aware of a new smell — there is freshness in the air and the lack of smoke. Praise God!

Pleasing aromas draw us near to loving and comforting memories.

A verse in 2 Cor. describes the knowledge of You, Lord, as a scent that we carry so that we may bring Your goodness and Your glorious essence into the lives of others. Verse 14: “But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of Him everywhere.” Thank You, Lord. Help us all to be bearers of Your heavenly fragrance, which far out passes any autumn scent, for which we are ever so grateful.

Love Mara
