HHS teacher retires on a high note

Spanish teacher gave up career in law and found a love of students and teaching, as well as confidence in herself

Havre High School Spanish teacher Marie Deegan will be retiring from teaching this year after 34 years in education, with 27 of those years working in Havre.

Deegan, who has a paralegal and law degree as well as a master's in Spanish, practiced law before changing to teaching.

"I spent a lot of time, effort and money and became a lawyer and practiced and found I liked being the judge and jury," she said jokingly.

Her decision to put law behind her and become a teacher had to do not only with being the "judge and jury" but also with having a career she enjoyed.
