Tiber at high levels, access reduced in some areas

Press Release

BILLINGS — The water level in the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s Tiber Reservoir — Lake Elwell — southwest of Chester is seeing increased water levels and the bureau is telling people that access to some recreation areas could be reduced.

The reservoir experienced high inflows as a result of heavy rain in the region. Meanwhile, releases from Tiber Dam have been reduced to approximately 700 cubic feet per second at the direction of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to assist with flood control along the Missouri River main stem, downstream of Fort Peck Dam.

The reservoir elevation is 2.5 feet above the normal full level of 2993 feet, and is expected to peak at approximately 2996 feet by Tuesday, July 10.

Inflows into Tiber Reservoir are currently averaging about 1,800 cfs, and are slowly decreasing.

People are asked to check with the local county dispatch office or Reclamation office at 406-759-5077 about access to areas on the reservoir.
