Absentee voters receiving messages to tell them to register as absentee voters

Group sending mass messages including to people already registered

Hill County Clerk and Recorder Sue Armstrong said her office has been receiving calls from absentee voters wondering why they are receiving messages telling them to register as absentee voters.

Armstrong said the messages are not from election administrators or from the Montana Secretary of State’s Office.

The Secretary of State’s Office said New American Jobs Fund is sending out messages telling people “Based on State Records, you are registered to vote in the state of Montana but not yet applied to vote by absentee ballot.”

Armstrong said the message is apparently being sent to people who have registered to vote absentee.

She said people are welcome to call their clerk and recorder’s office to make certain they are registered to vote absentee.

People can visit the “My Voter Page” under “Elections” on the Montana Secretary of State’s website at http://www.sos.mt.gov for more information about absentee voting.
