Ice Hawks play well in season-opening games

Havre ties Missoula Saturday night, before falling to the Bruins Sunday morning at the Havre Ice Dome

The Havre Ice Hawks high school hockey team got their 2018-19 season underway this past weekend, as they played host to the team from Missoula inside the Havre Ice Dome.

Missoula and Havre met for two games with the first coming Saturday night. In that matchup, the two teams each came away with a point as the final score ended up being 6-6. After getting a tie in the first matchup with Missoula, the Ice Hawks returned to the Ice Dome Sunday morning for the second of back-to-back games. This time, though, head coach Barry Brownlee and the Ice Hawks were defeated by Missoula in a 3-0 shutout.

Hitting the ice for Havre Saturday and Sunday was a roster that featured 19 players including Dexter Beck, Kaine Black, Jace Butcher, August Eacker, Cole Hanson, Noah Kirsch, Joseph Kirsch, Donovan McLain, Tavish McLean, Bayron Merker, Connor Moomey, Kinzee Peterson, Rhoda Peterson, Theron Peterson, Trennis Riley, Ethan Roberts, Trent Shettel, Bridger Staples, Jocelyn Staples and Colby Tilleman.

Havre, which is 0-1-1, has a couple of weeks off before their next games. The Ice Hawks will be back in action Nov 23-24 for games against Glasgow inside the Havre Ice Dome.
