Museum numbers slump heading into winter

Despite heading into the holiday season, the number of visitors to the H. Earl Clack Memorial Museum has decreased, museum Director Emily Mayer said during the Clack Museum board meeting Monday night at Havre Inn and Suites.

“Our numbers are not as well as I’d like them to be,” Mayer said.

She said she is grateful to all who have stopped by the museum, though.

“There will be opportunities for increased visitation as the holiday season goes on,” Mayer added.

Several small events are scheduled to take place at Holiday Village Mall and the museum is putting on its annual Dino Christmas Dec. 8, Mayer said.

Mayer added that local resident Charlotte Faust is donating two items to the museum: a slide projector and vinyl records.

The board decided to accept her donations.

Vicki Clouse, professor in the College of Arts & Sciences at Montana State University-Northern, is also donating some display cases to the museum Mayer added.

Mayer said they look useful and are in “good shape.”

The board decided to accept this donation, as well, and will decide what to put in the display cases in the future.

During the committee reports portion of the meeting, Mayer said she had looked at a photo from a past Veterans Day celebration and compared it to photos she took when she was at Town Square over the weekend.

She said in the past, people were everywhere in the downtown area, but the crowd was much smaller Sunday.

“The contrast is interesting,” she added.
