Obituary - Phyllis Kaye Baker

Surrounded by loved ones, Phyllis Kaye Baker, 52 years of age, peacefully and gently left this world in the early morning hours of December 4, 2018.

She was born to Clement Baker, Sr. and Patsy Stump Gopher on September 18, 1966.

She spent her early years in Great Falls and Rocky Boy, MT, and her teen years in Mandaree, ND. As an adult, she made her home in Rocky Boy, always appreciating the beauty of our homeland, the people, and the surroundings.

Phyllis had a love of physical fitness. She enjoyed power walking, swimming, and lifting weights. While she participated in all forms of exercise, running was her passion. Family was of utmost importance to and for her, and she enjoyed the many gatherings that were held at the Gopher Ranch and spending time with her family.

Phyllis was an amazing human being with unsurmountable strength, courage, and love for her family and those she considered friends. Her belief and faith in our traditional Cree ways carried her through to her very last breath.

She is survived by her only child, Kelly Jo Morsette; parents, Kenneth and Patsy Gopher; siblings Evelyn Baker of Rocky Boy Montana, Clement (Oriann) Baker Jr. of Mandaree, ND, Colleen Baker of Rocky Boy MT, Harlan (Kishey) Baker of Rocky Boy MT, Keith (Carrie) Gopher of Rocky Boy MT, DeeDee Gopher of Rocky Boy MT, Pam (Steve Corcoran) of Rocky Boy MT, and Tia (Dayton) Mandan of Mandaree ND; along with numerous cousins, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and her grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clement Baker Sr., along with numerous grandparents, uncles, aunties, cousins, and other relatives.

Wake services were held December 4, 2018, at the Rocky Boy Senior Center. Traditional burial services are set for 10:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at the Rocky Boy Cemetery. Journey Feast to be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 6, at the Rocky Boy Senior Center.
