Havre Northstars take care of the Chargers in Great Falls

After more than a week off, the Havre Northstars American Legion baseball team was back on the field Wednesday in Great Falls and against the Chargers Class AA squad, Havre was able to win a high-scoring affair.

In a nine-inning game, Havre and Great Falls combined to score 24 runs. Yet, the two teams also combined for as many hits (15) as errors in the 13-11 win for the Northstars, who are now 2-1 on the season in non-conference play.

Northstars veteran Tony Antley got the start Wednesday in Great Falls and he turned in a solid outing that got him the win after going five innings and allowing just two runs on four hits. The Northstars got Antley an early lead when Kennedy McKay drove in a run in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly.

The score stayed 1-0 until the fourth inning when Havre scored six runs to go up 7-0. Antley aided his own cause on the mound by driving in a run along with Carson Lunak, Austin Delarosa and Eli Cloninger. Great Falls managed to get another run before Antley exited the game after the fifth inning, but following another five runs by the Northstars in the sixth, Havre led 12-2.

Once Antley came out of the game, Great Falls was finally able to muster some offense and the Chargers got two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh, before three runs each in the eighth and ninth innings. Great Falls eventually closed the gap to 13-11 but was unable to even things up and Bridger Staples was able to put the game away on the mound.

McKay was 2-for-5 with two RBIs in the win for the Northstars, who also got one hit each from Caleb Allestad, Antley, Delarosa and Reno. Allestad, McKay and Antley all finished with two RBIs.

Havre will be back in action again May 19 on the road against the Tri-County Cardinals.
