Hi-Line Athletes of the Week

Tommy Brown/Tyrel Kjersem, Havre High Tennis

For the third straight year, the Central A divisional doubles final came down to an all-Havre affair. And in 2019, it was Blue Pony senior Tommy Brown teaming up with junior Tyrel Kjersem to win the doubles title. The duo upended teammates Reese Bulkley and Jake Huston in last Wednesday's finale in Lewistown to bring Havre it's sixth straight Central A boys doubles title, and help the Ponies to their 10th straight team title. Brown and Kjersem are also returning state qualifiers for the Ponies, who head to the state tournament with a 12-3 record.

Loy Waid, Havre High Track

Only a sophomore, Havre High's Loy Waid put on a show at last weekend's Eastern A Divisional track meet in Belgrade. Waid won three gold medals, including finishing first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.69. Waid was also a key member of both of Havre's winning relay teams at the Eastern A, while she advanced to state in the 200 meters and the triple jump. Waid's performance helped spark the Ponies to an outstanding fourth-place finish. Waid was also a key member of the Havre High state championship girls basketball team this winter.
